Larry Louie - Travel Photographer of the Year 2010

The Travel Photographer Of The Year Competition has named its winner for 2010, and it's Larry Louie with his wonderful black & white photographs of Djenne in Mali.

Photographers in over 70 countries submitted thousands of images for this year’s contest. Entrants from 34 countries were shortlisted and photographers from 18 countries scooped individual category awards. The judges unanimously agreed that his beautiful, very distinctive shots made Larry - who uses his photography as a platform to highlight the work of the eyesight charity Seva Canada – a very worthy overall winner.

Hotel by Erwin Olaf

Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf deals with loneliness in his newest series, Hotel. The images were taken in hotel rooms all over the world, and contrast the somewhat luxurious setting of the room with a detached melancholic feeling portrayed by the subjects.

The "Hotel" collection displays velvet-gloved emotional impact, seedy, melancholic images of disaffected, doll-like, and generally nude women positioned around nourish hotel rooms.

2010 National Geographic Photographic Contest Entries

The 2010 National Geographic Photo Contest attracts thousands of creative and imaginative photographers from around the world to submit their photos in three categories: People, Places, and Nature.

Altrough the submissions ended, the grand prize winner will receive $10,000 and have their photo published in National Geographic magazine.

Sand Art by Jim Denevan

Jim Denevan creates large-scale beach drawings using a simple driftwood stick. He walks more than 30 miles for 7 hours a day creating unbelievable geometric patterns.

The artist makes huge geometric shapes in the sand, which for some may take up to seven hours of work! Generally composed of irregular circles and straight lines, it is a real monumental task and patience to create the largest drawings on sand.
