Philippe Halsman (Latvian: Filips Halsmans; 2 May 1906 Riga, Latvia - 25 June 1979 New York City) was an outstanding Photographer of the XX century. Philip was born into a Jewish family in Riga.

He became interested in photography 15 years of age.  In 1928, while walking with Philip in the Austrian Alps, his father fell from a great height and was killed. Witnesses to the accident was not, and Philip was sentenced to 10 years for patricide.
