Philippe Halsman (Latvian: Filips Halsmans; 2 May 1906 Riga, Latvia - 25 June 1979 New York City) was an outstanding Photographer of the XX century. Philip was born into a Jewish family in Riga.
He became interested in photography 15 years of age. In 1928, while walking with Philip in the Austrian Alps, his father fell from a great height and was killed. Witnesses to the accident was not, and Philip was sentenced to 10 years for patricide. The case gained worldwide publicity and to protect Phillip were many celebrities, among them Albert Einstein. After four years in prison, Philip was released on condition that he leave Austria for good. So, once in Paris, Philip, became famous as a photographer, publishing his works in various magazines.
