Alexandre Deschaumes is a self taught french photographer who succeeds in sublimating the most beautiful landscapes in the world. The artist captures the magnificent beauty of ethereal landscapes by exploring through the manipulation of light and shadow the reflections of his emotional state. We had the privilege to interview Alexandre and to publish some of his best shots, so go ahead and check them out below.
Tell us about something about Alexandre Deschaumes Photography?
I think my work shows my personal vision of nature through photography. It’s a sort of abstract study of evocative and evolving atmospheres.
Can you make a brief description on the pictures in this set?
This is a part of the “Ethereal Nature Collection” , showing landscapes, abstract, nature details in places such as French Alps, Austria, Iceland and Patagonia. The collection is somewhat dark and evocative, tainted with ominous atmospheres, otherworldly visions, movements and nature details.
What’s your creative process like?
I spend a lot of time looking for new inspiring places, seeking new hiking areas, a special point of view, a new lake, a forest or a stream. Then in the field, I try to allow me enough time to feel the atmosphere and to reach a special point of view and keep a sense of spontaneity.
Where do you find inspiration and why you like photography?
Most beautiful captures seem to comes out from an unspeakable, floating feeling. It comes when my soul is disconnected from reality. It comes with a strange inner pain and with the desire to behold a sort of hope.

When I am in nature, the environment makes me feel humble about all that surrounds me, opening a new abstract door of inspiration, making me very grateful about these fantastic benefits. And the most important aspect that i like about the abstract photography quest is that when I am in nature, I feel home and I feel alive.
What are some tips you could give to people that really like your work?
I would advise them to listen to their inner feeling, to take their camera and go somewhere remote, like a deep forest during a foggy day and keep watching everywhere to seek details, because beauty is everywhere.
To feel the atmosphere of the surroundings, vision is always the most important. In composition, you should avoid everything that disturbs and focus on simple shapes, because elegance comes with simplicity.
Can you name some great photographer that inspires you and why?
I love the work from Ansel Adams and his limitless shades of grey. Modern landscape photographer as well: Marc Adamus, Ebru Sidar. Other inspirations comes from dark ambient music, painters, books (HP Lovecraft).
What can you tell us about your workshops?
I organize different photography workshops:
1. French Alps: two days backpacking in the mountains to learn vision and techniques , capture the inspiring and difficult light and discover the Raw & Photoshop editing. Groups of maximum 6 people , led by me and a mountain guide.
2. Iceland: Next departure for the Iceland Adventure is June 2012 ( 20-29 ) . 10 days with Me, Xavier Jamonet (landscape photographer) and Olivier Bidot (Mountain Guide). We cross 60 km, hiking through amazing , odd, otherworldly landscapes . Then we reach some inspiring points in South Iceland . Learning composition, use of filters, difficult light, atmospheres, analysis and photoshop editing .
3. Private workshops: I give personal courses about my vision and techniques at home (French Alps) and some experiments in the wild (lost waterfall, forests, mountains) and I teach raw and photoshop editing as well.
