The Surreal Alternative to Your Daily Life by Oleg Oprisco Photography

October 08, 2014 by Ana Vlad in Fine Art

Oleg believes in the power of practice. That’s why in interviews he is often quoted telling young artists to stop searching for their idols’ work and practice their own style much more. He uses his past experiences as a stepping ladder for future projects. For instance, Oleg has shared in a previous interview that he has visited thousands of occasions with a high level of attention to detail, for instance weddings and birthdays. Those experiences have taught him the colors that people like and this is one bit of knowledge gained from practice that he uses even now.

Furthermore, he shoots on medium format film. Oleg is also known for putting a shoot in place from beginning to end by himself (make-up, wardrobe, props). What he is also known for is the innovative perspective of his photographs. Each of his photographs has 2 great stories behind them: how it was conceived and what is transmits.

How would you feel if you could create a different story about yourself in a photograph? Because the surreal photographs of Oleg Oprisco do just that. They start with crumbles of information or situations found in real life, and they sketch a surreal outcome. His photographs usually have one model, the hero of the story. There is a tree, a lake, a forest or a building that is taken out of context and placed in a surreal realm by the expression, pose, look of the model. Oprisco photographs present what you would expect to see with the eyes of your mind, during a daydream and not on your computer screen.

So, do you have a similar story? Have you ever fantasized about a place, a person, a situation and then found your fantasy immortalized in a photograph? Share your experience with us in the comment section below.

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY THROUGH THE LENS OF TOP RATED CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHERS
April 23, 2018

Photography is a medium of contradictions. It is both ridiculously easily and almost impossibly difficult. Being able to see things is pretty easy, but being able to capture a very moment is the difficult part. A good photo comprise many things, not only one must hit the shutter at the right moment in time, but the composition, color coordination, light and  perspective play a significant role too. A photographer is an editor of reality in trying to make sense of reality; he tries to distill the essence of his subject- a scene, feeling or persona, into a single, two- dimensional image.

We're waiting to get inspired to create the perfect piece of art, to build the next big thing or start a project we always dreamed about. We are curious to know what inspired our favorite artists, as if we could achieve the same results if we followed the steps of their creative process. Chasing for inspiration in the never ending world of social media platforms can sometimes be counter-productive. The key is to start doing something. Not tomorrow or next week, but today. Once you commit to getting started, momentum carries you. As Pablo Picasso, one of the most important figures of the 20th century, claimed "inspiration exists, but it has to find us working."
